Who’s Eligible for Bariatric Surgery?
Having failed at non-surgical methods of weight loss, patients with obesity are candidates for a surgical weight loss procedure. Morbid obesity is closely correlated with a number of serious conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Along with the negative effects on health, there are also negative social, occupational, economic, and psychological stigma associated with obesity. According to the National Institute of Health, bariatric surgery is the only effective therapy for morbid obesity and its complications.
